Dangerous Amish Showdown – Mary Alford

“Gunshots shatter Willa Lambright’s placid Montana evening—and that’s before she discovers on-the-run lawman Mason Shetler on her doorstep. Willa hadn’t glimpsed her childhood friend since he’d turned his back on Amish country years before. Now the US marshal’s returned with an injured partner, a young witness he must protect at all costs…and vicious Mafia agents dead set on making sure none of them survive.”

Dangerous Amish Showdown has this blurb, and I love it! It was one of those Love Inspired Suspense books that I like… I know, they’re soppy and slightly predictable, but I just enjoy them! The main character Mason is wonderful and a US Marshal. The story starts off with a car chase when Mason and his Marshal partner Eric try to protect a little girl. The story unfolds quickly from there, and I couldn’t wait to see what would happen.

Mary Alford, the author, has done a great job with the given title. She says, “When I first heard of the title for my latest Love Inspired Suspense, I smiled. Dangerous Amish Showdown reminds me of the old westerns where the good guys face off with the bad guys and always win. As a child I loved watching them, mostly because my dad loved them so much, and yes, a big draw for me besides sharing the time with him, was seeing the good guys win. It’s what I try to put into every single book I write, and it’s exactly what happens in Dangerous Amish Showdown.”

I must say, Dangerous Amish Showdown has a bit of a Western-type flavour, mixed with Amish details. I loved the story of faith woven through the book and how Mason struggled with so many realisations. Willa, the Amish young woman, shared so much background with him and was a real help to him. Even though she herself had questions of faith as well. Her mother, who seems such a wonderful woman, suffers from Huntingdon disease, bringing Willa so much grief.

Then there is the little girl who has seen and experienced so much. I loved how the people around her protected her and cared for her. It made the story such a rich one, even though there is plenty of suspense, plenty of twists and turns to keep me turning the pages fast!

Dangerous Amish Showdown didn’t disappoint, and I struggled to put it down, mainly because I wanted to see people happy and just as Mary explained, for good to triumph over evil, for prayers to be answered and for faith to grow. Such a satisfying ending as well…no spoilers, of course, but yes, great ending, haha, that’s all I’m saying!
