Every Good Gift – Urcelia Teixeira

Every Good Gift starts off with a dreadful tragedy, making you wonder how the peace that fills the first few lines will ever be recovered. The setting is idyllic, a beautiful island, a peaceful sunrise, a young pastor praying on his surfboard, spending time with God like he does every morning. Then everything changes.

Adam Cross, the main character, is a pastor at a very special mission. The Lighthouse, a mission based on the lovely island, is where he has been living since he was twelve, after his parents die in a car crash. Now he suffers a second tragedy and you are wondering with him how his faith will survive all this!

Urcelia Teixeira, the author, has done a good job in taking you along with Adam Cross, showing his grief and anger. Every Good Gift deals very well with his loss, not coming out with easy answers at all. It shows the different stages of grief, as well as the way our minds deal with sudden loss.

Soon after the tragedy, other trouble creeps into the story. One of the other staff members at the mission carries a hidden story as well. And when Adam goes to see his uncle to find out more about his parents’ car crash, he finds out more than he bargained for.

Every Good Gift is full of mystery. Who is the man, watching Adam? Especially as he appears in a picture of the car crash as well… Adam has to revisit many sad moments, but Urcelia has woven in his faith in a beautiful way.

I loved the twists and turns the story takes you on, making you wonder how it will ever be resolved. Every Good Gift has some surprises and I struggle to not share some spoilers with you! I loved Adam Cross, and it was good to see how God held on to him during these tragedies.

Every Good Gift isn’t hard to read, and it isn’t the longest book either, making it ideal for the summer holidays! It’s a relaxing read, apart from the storyline, of course, but it was just what I needed after a busy few days. There are some wonderful characters in the book, and their stories are brought in well. Jim, the caretaker, was actually on my list of suspects for a while as there seem to be discrepancies in his answers…

Every Good Gift is the first of a new series, where Urcelia wants to knit faith and fiction together. It’s my favourite combination as a writer, I call it Fiction With A Message, my favourite hashtag! To write with purpose is a real blessing and I’m so glad Urcelia has found that as well. Every Good Gift is right in that category, as people struggle with their faith whilst the storyline keeps you gripped as well.

I received a review copy via Celebrate Lit but was under no pressure or obligation to write a favourable review.

As it’s a Celebrate Lit Tour, there is a Giveaway, US only!

To celebrate her tour, Urcelia is giving away the grand prize package of a $25 Amazon Gift Card and a paperback copy of the book!!

Be sure to comment on the blog stops for nine extra entries into the giveaway! Click the link below to enter.
