This week, at the Ladies’ Bible Study, we looked at Jesus as the Light of the world, having come into darkness. This poem is my reflection on those words in John 8, and the two contrasts meeting.
Light
Life
Glimpses, unable to fully understand
Wrapped in warmth and closeness
Complete and utter comprehension
Time filled with perfection
Abundance of goodness
Held by an almighty hand
Creation designed to thrive
Filled with glory and might
***
Darkness
spite
Pain and suffering
Stumbling on uneven ground
Death, destruction and despair
Days a living nightmare
Anger abounding around
Fear’s grip constantly winning
Existing through fight
Filled with hopelessness
***
Where should these meet, ever?
What fellowship can they have together?
Two worlds, colliding
Incomprehensibly, peace with us abiding
Light has come to down to earth
Hatred overwhelmed with mirth
For Life has been poured out
And Love has overcome those by darkness bound
Now calling us children of the King
***
No room for unkindness and quarrelling
Light and Life has been restored
Darkness and evil no longer our first resort
Walking in His grace and mercy
Only through our Saviour’s death counted worthy
Two worlds colliding
God made Man, with us abiding.
What fellowship can we then have, why in darkness stay
When in Jesus Christ we are healed this day?
