Hector – D.M.Mullan

“In an upside down boat at the top of Mount High, Lives a rather peculiar and strange little guy.”

That’s how the fantastic tale of Hector van Groat starts. D. M. Mullan’s Curious Tales start off with Hector. Hector is a clever little guy with some very firm ideas about life and other people. He is an inventor, is Hector, and his inventions are amazing. Hector likes being by himself, he doesn’t need anybody. Until he starts to feel a bit blue, and the book offers to tell you what you can do if you feel blue too.

I absolutely love this book. Hector is wonderful, and the way D.M.Mullan writes about Hector and his adventures is beautiful. The tempting thing in this book is the map at the beginning. It has lots of other characters on it, making me want to buy all the other books that are yet to come.

The illustrations of Hector done by Kirsteen Harris-Jones are great, with lots of energy coming off the pages. I love Hector’s little face and the expressions on them. The rhythm of the introduction is a little unusual, but the rest reads like a dream!

I simply can’t wait for the next book to come out.

I received a review copy via Love Books Tours but was under no obligation or pressure to write a favourable review. These views are my own.
