Yukon Justice takes us all the way to Alaska. It is part of one of my favourite series, the Love Inspired Suspense. I know, they are sweet and exciting but they make for a wonderful light read whilst coming across some incredible scenery.
Dana Mentink, the author, has done a great job describing Alaska. I loved the reindeer that form a huge part of the story. I didn’t know anything about reindeer, and I love them as an extra storyline. Did you know reindeer’s ankles make clicking noises when walking, and they can actually identify each other by the way their ankles click? They use it to find each other in a blizzard. Who knew? There are more bits of information, so I was thrilled as reading an exciting novel is definitely the best way to learn about all kinds of things!
The stories in the Love Inspired Suspense series all follow a similar line, so although it makes the book a little predictable, I love the familiarity of it. As I said, Yukon Justice isn’t the standard story, for it deals with the reindeer as well. Apart from that, this is about the K-9 team, so there is a wonderful dog in Yukon Justice. It’s a water rescue dog, who adores water. Maybe too much, as every puddle has to be tried! K-9 books are my favourite in the Love Inspired Suspense series, as they’re a lot about the animals and their relationship with their handlers. It gives the book an extra layer.
I love the speed of Yukon Justice, with several twists and turns that left me turning the pages as fast as I could. The main character, Katie Kapowski, is a K-9 team assistant. State Trooper Brayden comes to her rescue when her estranged uncle attacks the farm as well as Katie. As the blurb says, He and his furry partner are the last team Katie wants assigned to protect her.
She has no choice, of course, and the book is straight into action. It is part of the series, but the book gives you plenty of backstories. I love how Brayden’s faith comes through, helping Katie and others around him. It’s quite subtle but I enjoyed the wise words he shared. I feel this book is great for sharing, as the Gospel message is there, showing the outworking of faith. It’s hard to imagine what faith should look like on a Tuesday morning and books like this can help.
Yukon Justice has a great cover picture, as do all the Love Inspired Suspense books. It’s a great read for this time of the year, with Thanksgiving coming up and cooler weather. I will never look at a reindeer the same way again, that’s for sure.
